A clothing shop for women which opened in Tunbridge Wells 30 years ago will close on Saturday. Long Tall Sally in Chapel Place, which as its name suggests caters for those who are tall, sold own-label and branded fashion, shoes and accessories. But this Saturday (February 10) at the end of the working day it will close for good.
The company cited the shift from "physical stores to online" shopping among its customers for the closure. Five staff worked at the shop and Long Tall Sally's spokesman told Kent Live the company was doing "everything we can to support" the team in finding new positions.
'It was a difficult but necessary decision to close the doors'
The spokesman said: "The store has been in Chapel Place for some thirty years, so it’s with sadness that we’ve taken the difficult but necessary decision to close the doors, however retail is evolving fast and there continues to be a significant and sustained shift from physical stores to online, both at Long Tall Sally and globally across the retail industry.
"We have done, and continue to do, everything we can to support our five valued store colleagues in finding new positions and thank them for their dedication and loyalty to our brand.
'Making significant investments in offering a world-class shopping experience'
"Long Tall Sally is now serving more tall women than ever before and we have ambitious plans to continue expanding our range in 2018 and beyond. "As part of one of Europe’s leading direct-to-consumer apparel retailers, the business is making significant investments in offering consumers a world-class shopping experience over the next several years. "Under the direction of our new chief product officer Cathy Carrington-Birch, we aim to provide the widest possible choice of stylish and fashionable tall clothing with a focus on quality and fit."
