I've been reliably informed (and I checked and it's true) that Alloy Apparel's shoe selection now covers the US size 13 range. And... very important - the shoes are also in the budget range. Right now they are offering 23 shoe-styles (flats and heels) in US size 13. The most expensive ones are $ 39.90. A good deal, if you ask me.

Welcome to Amalli Talli - we are a different kind of shopping experience. We often get the question, "Are you a tall store?" And the answer is YES! This question is often followed up by the standard, "How tall do you have to be to shop here?" What makes us different, however, is that we don't recommend that you fit into a certain height range to shop with us. We strongly believe that tall isn't solely defined by height and comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and proportions. 

We are two sisters, Amy & Alli, who understand "tall" from both sides of the spectrum and launched this company in 2014 to fill a void that we had always experienced personally. At 5'10", Alli had always struggled to find stylish, trendy & well-fitting pieces, but has never been able to shop at other tall specialty stores because their articles of clothing are too long for her. Amy stands at 6' 3 ½ " but has always wanted more variety in the styles and selections available to her.  Between the two of us, there are over 5” of difference in height, plus extremely different proportions, so we take all of that into consideration when designing & buying pieces for the store.  Our fundamental belief is that not all tall women are built the same, so not all inventory can be cut the same.  We focus on providing a great mix of inventory in different lengths, styles & proportions so every woman can find pieces that will work for her. 

After launching initially in a brick and mortar store in a suburban Minneapolis mall, we have transitioned our business entirely online in 2017.  This move allowed us to focus on the segments of our small business that have had the greatest customer demand – our ecommerce platform & also our exclusive private label items.  Our vision is to continue to add more styles under our Amalli Talli private label, so that we are able to respond best to what customers are asking for and also have greater control over the fit and size options available.  We are proud to be working with some enormously talented people to design & produce these items, and will always take our inspiration from the popular trends in the market today so that our customers have access to top styles in the lengths they need.

Historically, finding tall clothing for women has been a disappointing experience. Retailers typically cater to the average woman, leaving us with clothes that just aren't long enough, age appropriate or flattering. This became my story. All too many times I found myself settling for ill-fitted clothing or worse, men's clothing! Because of my own personal shopping horrors, I was convinced I wasn't the only frustrated tall woman.I created HEIGHT GODDESS, a contemporary line for women measuring over 5'9".

In 2007, with no formal fashion training I sought out to find experienced industry professionals to assist me in developing premium denim for tall women. For over two years, I continuously worked to ensure each style embodied the confidence and beauty of a tall, fashion- forward woman who is innovative and timeless. Perched at their usual spot in the lobby of The Mercer hotel in New York's SoHo, Jens Grede and Erik Tortensson look like attractive bookends. The precise fit of their faux-worn-out jeans, Grede's slim T-shit, and Tortensson's grayed chambray shirt mark them as fashion insiders, obviously successful ones given that both are wearing Patek Philippe watches. 

Fast friends since they met nearly 20 years ago while breaking into the London publishing scene, the two Swedes have gone on to devise some of the most talked-about fashion endeavors of the past decade (they brought Justin Bieber to Calvin Klein, helped H&M introduce its COS concept, and launched the men's site Mr. Porter). They also started two magazines devoted to the beau monde and founded their own denim label, called Frame, five years ago. Their business is seduction, and their designs are catnip to an obsessive fan club that includes virtually every successful model today: Karlie Kloss, Lara Stone, and catwalk veteran Sasha Pivovarova, who appears in the shoot for this piece, among them.

The allure is simple. "Erik and I love good-looking things," Grede says. "We don't make things that are not flattering." 

"Yes," adds Torstensson, "there's a very famous person in this industry who always asks us, 'When are you going to do something that is ugly?' But good-looking is what we like. We like beautiful women and men and environments—whatever they might be." 

"If you have the privilege to work with people who are incredibly good-looking, why wouldn't you?" asks Grede. "It's like saying no to a cupcake. Why? It's delicious."

Earlier that morning Grede was contemplating this subject as he walked to the hotel from a nearby Equinox gym on Prince Street, a location that happens to be popular with beautiful people. "SoHo is the theater of New York," Grede says. "It gives you everything it promises in the movies." And for Grede and Torstensson, the store they opened this summer at 51 Greene Street has become their stage, a bright white box with an enormous, painstakingly weathered stone table and light boxes that display new Bruce Weber images of models with jeans wrapped around their heads.

"Historically, our job was to make other people famous, never ourselves," Torstensson says. After a few years working at Wallpaper magazine as kids, they formed Saturday Group, a creative firm that included a marketing agency (called Wednesday, now a part of Omnicom Group) and their own magazines, Man About Town and Industrie. As editors and as admen, and sometimes as photographers, they operated largely behind the scenes.

"We had a great education working for some of the best brands in the world." Torstensson says. Lesson No. 1: "If you try to make something cool, it doesn't work. What we try to stress is consistency and clarity."

Frame's collaborations with the genetically gifted, for example, began in 2013 with Kloss, who designed jeans with a 40-inch inseam for tall women like herself, and carried on with the photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the fragrance guru Ben Gorham of Byredo, and Pivovarova, whose habit of doodling on her jeans became the inspiration for Frame's embroidered denim this spring. The attitude of their designs is always unpretentious, even if an awful lot of thought does into every detail to convey a certain image.

When women who measure at least 5 feet 9 inches tall shop for denim, they are often left feeling as though styles such as flares or skinny jeans will end up resembling cropped gauchos or capris.

Standing at 5 feet 11 inches, former model and actress Kathryn Brolin decided it was time to launch Midheaven Denim to provide solutions for other tall women who want to find their ideal denim.

"Midheaven targets tall women like me who are looking for inseams a bit longer than what is usually found out there, but we’ve been so pleased to see that women of even average heights are ordering and absolutely loving their Midheavens. So, they've been rolling, they’ve been hemming, they’ve been self-altering their jeans."

With a soft launch of four styles in January, Brolin is aiming to introduce her entire line this April. Manufactured in downtown Los Angeles with a team of 25 sewers, the denim brand sources its fabric from Italy, a region close to Brolin's heart because she studied at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence. The importance of finding a responsibly sourced fabric produced sustainably was important during the research-and-development process for Midheaven.

"The factory is literally located in a national park, so they have a bunch of different guidelines that they have to follow in terms of waste management and all of their production tactics. They use cotton that is sourced from the Better Cotton Initiative," said Brolin, who is married to actor Josh Brolin.

While the brand will offer sizes 24 through 33, with inseams that measure 33, 34, 35, 36 and 38 inches, there is a conscientious effort to accommodate women who have tall but also curvy bodies. In addition to choosing a soft fabric that will stretch with the body, but not lose its shape, Brolin would like to plan a plus-size capsule collection in 2019.

"It’s so incredibly soft. The fabric stretches, but it also has amazing recovery, so women with hips and booties, they try these jeans on and they notice it will stretch with their curves," she said. "It’s a very giving fabric."

Even though Midheaven’s fabric is sourced in a town near Milan, Brolin wanted to keep production stateside in Los Angeles. It took her one year to find the perfect group of professionals, which led her to try working with different people in the industry, but never finding the perfect fit until piecing together her current team.

"As the owner of a small business, especially one that is just starting out, many factory owners - at least in this town - don’t want to work with you due to the minimal value and volume of the goods that you are producing,” Brolin explained.

Despite this challenge, she is extremely happy with the devoted production team that cares about manufacturing Midheaven’s designs to her exact specifications. As a town that has been central to the production of many successful premium denim labels, Los Angeles is a city with extraordinary resources for a new launch, but Brolin also looked beyond her own needs when choosing this city.

"It's much more expensive to produce in the states, I get that, but there are so many talented garment production workers in this city that it felt odd to take this job opportunity away from them in order to take it to another place where I might make more money," she said.

Taking the first steps into the niche category of manufacturing jeans for tall women is a venture that Brolin recognizes will attract a specific consumer, but that is the clientele she wants to reach during her launch.

"I envision Midheaven as a full, well-rounded brand, but what is most important to me is to grab that customer who is really interested in finding denim that is long enough for them because it has been something that I have been looking for my entire life," Brolin explained.

Though she envisions Midheaven evolving into a lifestyle brand that includes pieces that fall within the athletic and sleepwear categories, Brolin’s intentions for her growth are clear and rooted in becoming a trusted premium-denim resource.

"Because we are starting small, with the intention of growing organically, we don’t want to offer too many things at the start for fear that our brand would get diluted," she said. "We want to be known as a denim brand first and foremost."

Once Midheaven launches exclusively at www.midheavendenim.com, styles will range in price from $189 to $280 retail.

Alloy Apparel is excited to introduce their new team, who are the minds behind the exciting spring collection! Coming from powerhouses such as Puma, Adidas, VF Corp, Dstld, and Gap, the spring line is inspired by the team's strong design and merchandising background, as well as a passion for elevating the brand to new levels.

The benefits of this bamboo fabric are that it's breathable, soft, and eco-friendly with a luxurious hand feel. The updated silhouettes feature a wrap top, twist front dress, and super soft jumpsuits. These items will be available during the spring and summer of 2019. 

Many of Alloy's customer fall favorites have been updated as well! The beloved Booty Bootcut pant is offered in three new colors, the Elena pant in two new prints, and the Julia pant in a rich royal blue and a range black and white prints. Alloy's Powerstretch denim line is being carried over as well, in perfect washes for spring along with a new wine color and camo print.

We want to start by saying that not all tall people play basketball. But for us, that is where our story starts. Kayla and Kesia had just moved to Barrie, ON and Nicole invited Kayla to try out for a basketball team. Even though the basketball didn't stick for all of us, the friendship did!

Through relocations, school, and career changes, we continued to stay in touch, and to relate on the many issues that only tall girls face: people commenting on how tall you are, the lack of leg room, standing out in a crowd and the dreaded issue of finding clothes that fit! That issue in particular was the one that persisted. From the disappointment of going into a store and realizing they don't carry your size to the frustration of having to sacrifice style or fit just to get the right length.

So together we created the vision for #TallSize. Similar to Plus Size, we want Tall Size clothing to be normalized among retailers. Our goal is to make shopping accessible and fun for tall women so that they can feel beautiful and confident in their own skin.
